High chair to "Big Boy" chair
A good friend and teaching colleague asked me about reworking a high chair into a "Big Boy" chair. Knowing that the chair was made for her son and that it was being reworked for his son lead me to taking on the request without hesitation.

These first photos show the chair as it was received. Time had weighed heavily on it but I knew it could be brought back into service.

The chair was carefully disassembled so individual parts could be repaired or remade. I still didn't know the species of wood.

Careful sanding revealed beautiful mahogany.
Broken tenons were repaired and some new spindles were turned from the offcuts of the shortened legs. Several cracks were also in need of repair. Time for reassembly in its new form.

The seat was reassembled first and I was happy that the remade parts matched the originals and fit in seamlessly.

The final assembled and oiled chair.

I think he likes it!
